APA References : Source Types

APA References : Source Types

In APA, there are four major groups of sources:
  • textual works
  • audiovisual media
  • online media
  • data sets, software, and tests

Before you find the appropriate reference template and example, it’s important to accurately identify what type of source you have. First, to identify your source type, determine which of the four groups your source belongs in. Then, identify the correct category, and find your source type. If the category describes your source but your specific source type is not accounted for, use the template to approximate what your reference should look like.
